Potosi, Mo. (KFMO) - A second-half comeback has kept Ste. Genevieve's undefeated season alive, as the Dragons knocked off Potosi, 25-24.
The Trojans (1-3) held their own over all 4 quarters. Despite Ste. Genevieve (4-0) consistently moving the ball downfield against the Potosi defense, the Trojans found themselves able to stop the Dragons when it counted most, stopping Dragons' drives within Potosi territory. Combined with two rushing touchdowns for Noah Walton on offense, that led to Potosi holding a 12-0 lead at the break.
After the break, Ste. Genevieve began to finish off their drives, starting with a rushing touchdown for Owen Roth. Potosi would be able to stave off the hard-charging Dragons for a little while, picking up their first passing touchdown of the day on a David Miller strike to Jude Litton, but the Dragons kept coming. Ste. Genevieve took its first lead of the game late in the 4th quarter, Luke Ferranto finding the endzone to make it 19-18 to the Dragons.
The final couple minutes made this game one to remember. Potosi, getting the ball at their own 5-yard line due to a mishandled kick, took advantage of a couple of costly Ste. Genevieve penalties to keep their drive alive. Walton would then score a go-ahead touchdown on what was the longest play of the game, a 63-yard run to put the Trojans up by 5 at 24-19. However, the Dragon had one last trick up their sleeve, with Ferranto connecting with Ethan Ottens on a 58-yard pass to put the Dragons up for good, 25-24. The Trojans' last gasp drive fell short, and Ste. Genevieve took the knee for their fourth straight win.
Potosi's Noah Walton led all rushers with 18 carries for 135 yards. Ferranto led the Dragons with 22 carries for 111 yards. Potosi travels to Fredericktown this Friday, while Ste. Genevieve will host Central.
