Government Shutdown Could Delay Missouri SNAP Benefits in November

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The ongoing federal government shutdown could impact thousands of Missouri families who rely on SNAP benefits.

The Missouri Department of Social Services says October benefits were issued as normal, but November payments aren’t guaranteed unless Congress passes a funding bill soon. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which funds the program, has warned states that money for November benefits may run out if the shutdown continues.

Officials urge SNAP recipients to keep their information up to date and prepare for possible delays. Food banks across Missouri say they’re bracing for an increase in demand if benefits are disrupted.
