Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Two Hillsboro men, including a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Deputy, were injured early Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on northbound Missouri 21, just south of mile marker 183.2.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 3:10 a.m. when a 2018 Ford Taurus, driven by the deputy, a 41-year-old Hillsboro resident, was attempting to merge onto the highway from the right shoulder. At the same time, a 2005 Dodge Ram, driven by a 61-year-old man, also from Hillsboro, was traveling in the right lane approaching the merging vehicle. Troopers say both drivers attempted to avoid a collision by steering left, but the front of the Dodge Ram struck the left side of the Ford Taurus. Both vehicles began sliding — the Taurus ended up in the center median, while the Dodge Ram came to rest blocking the right lane of the highway. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and suffered moderate injuries. They were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South for treatment.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged and were towed from the scene.
