Ste. Genevieve County Fire District Launches Operations After Historic Merger

Ste. Genevieve Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Last Friday marked a major milestone for emergency services in Ste. Genevieve County.

After months of planning and preparation, August 1st, 2025, officially launched the Ste. Genevieve County Fire Protection District. The newly unified district was formed through the merger of six volunteer fire departments and now operates out of seven stations, making it one of the largest fire protection districts in Missouri, covering 329 square miles. Officials say this move is more than just a consolidation. It means improved emergency response times, consistent firefighter training across the county, upgraded equipment, and stronger, more reliable service for residents.

The district’s leadership says the effort honors the legacy of decades of volunteer fire service while preparing the county for the future with a more professional, streamlined approach to public safety.
