St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department Warns of Phone Scam

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department is alerting residents about a scam involving callers impersonating deputies.

Reports indicate scammers are using the real names of deputies and claiming citizens have active warrants for their arrest. The callers then attempt to pressure victims into making payments over the phone to avoid being taken into custody. Officials stress this is a scam.

The Sheriff’s Department will never call to demand payment or attempt to resolve a warrant over the phone. Payments are not accepted by phone, gift cards, or mobile apps. Authorities urge residents not to provide personal or financial information if they receive such a call. Instead, hang up immediately.

Anyone with concerns or wishing to verify the legitimacy of a call should contact the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Office directly at 573-431-2777.
