St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Sales tax numbers are down in St. Francois County compared to last year, but use tax numbers have risen in that same time frame.
Heading into June, $6,837,113.47 has been collected in sales tax this year, down from $6,929,304.97 at the same time last year. However, use tax numbers have seen a rise, going from $1,291,175.13 last year to $1,386,261.05 this year.
Presiding Commissioner Harold Gallaher says the money collected from the use tax, or Prop P, is immediately and directly given to the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department.
Prop P funds, in addition to salary raises, have allowed the Sheriff's Department to add personnel and purchase new vehicles.
