Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Eleven local military affiliated veterans organizations will host a Memorial Day Service on the St. Francois County Courthouse lawn in Farmington next Monday.
St. Francois County Sheriff, Jeff Crites, says the keynote speaker for the service is Greg Doolin of "Remember 13," a St. Louis nonprofit founded by the parents of Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz. In 2021, Schmitz and 12 other soldiers were killed in a suicide bombing at Hamid Karzai Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan during the American pull out from the Bagram Airbase.
St. Francois County citizens, especially Farmington residents, are encouraged to attend the service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Attendees should bring a lawn chair and park in the Annex parking lot. For more information, contact the Farmington VFW or American Legion.
