Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - As Missourians prepare for the 2025 Independence Day weekend, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding travelers to prioritize safety, whether heading to one of the state’s many recreational destinations or celebrating with a backyard barbecue.
Corporal Dallas Thompson with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says drivers can expect to see heavier traffic across the state over the long weekend.
The top three causes of traffic crashes in Missouri continue to be speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving. Thompson urges all drivers to make smart choices and never get behind the wheel after drinking.
Thompson says o matter how you’re celebrating, the smartest choice is to follow Missouri’s traffic and boating laws.”
During last year’s July 4th counting period, 14 people were killed, 6 in Troop C, and 560 were injured in 1,366 traffic crashes statewide. To help prevent tragedies, the Patrol will have all available troopers patrolling Missouri roadways and waterwaysthrough 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2025.
Troopers will be on the lookout for traffic violations, impaired drivers, and unsafe boating practices, while also offering assistance to travelers in need.
