St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A crash on southbound U.S. 67 near Cash Lane sent five people to area hospitals Monday afternoon, including two who were seriously injured.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 1:48 p.m. when a 2013 Volkswagen Passat, driven by a 41-year-old man from Poplar Bluff, struck the rear of a 2022 Buick Envision. The impact forced the Passat off the right side of the road, where it hit a rock embankment. Two occupants in the Passat sustained serious injuries.
A 45-year-old woman from Poplar Bluff was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, and a 14-year-old boy was flown to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The Buick was driven by a 58-year-old woman from Warrenton, who suffered minor injuries. Two children riding with her, an 11-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, also sustained minor injuries. All three were transported by the St. Francois County Ambulance District to Parkland Health Center in Bonne Terre.
Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. The Patrol report states the crash occurred because the driver of the Volkswagen was inattentive to the roadway.
