Festus Man Faces Felony Drug Charges After Gas Station Arrest

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A Festus man is facing multiple felony drug charges after police allegedly found him in possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and hydrocodone at a gas station earlier this year.

According to court documents, 44-year-old Jonathon D. Jones was charged on June 5 with three counts of possession of a controlled substance following his arrest at the Express Mart at 999 W. Gannon Drive in Festus. The charges, originally filed as class D felonies, each punishable by up to seven years in prison, may be elevated to class C felonies due to Jones’ prior drug conviction, prosecutors say. The probable cause statement indicates that a Festus Police officer encountered Jones at the gas station on May 5, 2024, and found him in possession of a syringe containing a substance suspected to be meth, two capsules suspected to contain fentanyl, and five hydrocodone tablets for which he did not have a prescription. Lab results from the Missouri State Highway Patrol later confirmed the syringe contained methamphetamine, the capsules contained fentanyl, and the tablets tested positive for hydrocodone.

Court records show Jones pleaded guilty to a previous drug possession charge in St. Francois County in May 2011. Jones remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro on a $5,000 bond.
