Eight Killed, Over 100 Injured During 2025 July Fourth Holiday Weekend in Missouri

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released preliminary statistics from the 2025 July Fourth holiday counting period, which spanned from 6 p.m. Thursday, July 3, through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 6.

Over the course of the holiday weekend, troopers responded to hundreds of incidents both on the road and on the water.

Traffic Crashes:

  • Total Crashes: 246
  • Injuries: 115
  • Fatalities: 8
  • DWI Arrests: 114

Among the eight fatalities reported, two occurred in St. Francois County. One of the victims was a 62-year-old man from Bonne Terre who died Friday after crashing his motorcycle on Route Y west of Snowdell Road. According to investigators, he lost control after passing another vehicle in a curve. He was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Mercy Hospital physician.

Another St. Francois County crash claimed the life of a 32-year-old man Saturday night on Cedar Falls Road at Flat River Bridge. The vehicle overturned, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Other fatal crashes occurred in St. Louis County, Laclede County, Putnam County, and elsewhere. One crash involved a hydroplaning vehicle that led to a multi-injury, multi-vehicle collision in Laclede County. Another involved a pedestrian who walked into the path of a moving vehicle in Bethany, Missouri.

Notably, there were no traffic fatalities reported on Thursday or Sunday, with all eight deaths occurring on Friday and Saturday.

Boating Incidents:

  • Boating Crashes: 9
  • Injuries: 4
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Drowning Incidents: 0
  • BWI Arrests (Boating While Intoxicated): 13

The Highway Patrol reported no boating-related deaths or drownings for the second year in a row.

In comparison, the 2024 Fourth of July weekend saw significantly more incidents: 14 fatalities, 560 injuries, and 1,366 traffic crashes. Last year, there were also 10 boating crashes and 149 DWI arrests.

The Patrol continues to urge Missourians to drive responsibly, wear seatbelts, and avoid drinking and driving or boating while intoxicated.
